Mary A. Eckler

ALBION — Mary A. Eckler, 96, of Medina, NY, formerly of Lyndonville, went to be with the Lord on       Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the Martin-Linsin Residence, Albion, NY.

Born on September 29, 1916 in Lyndonville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Claudia (Stisser) Young.

Mary graduated from Lyndonville High School in 1935. She married the late Walter W. Eckler on October 2, 1939, and together purchased a farm in the Lyndonville area and raised three children. She was a member of the Ashwood Wesleyan Church, serving as treasurer of the Mission Society for 50 years. She attended the Yates Baptist Church when able and was a member of the D.A.R. Orleans Chapter.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of     Fortune.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Eckler of Medina and Kathleen Powers of California; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Young of Lockport and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Jon Eckler; three sisters, Frances Wirth, Leona Bentley and Ruth Parsell; and a brother, Arnold Young.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the Lynhaven Cemetery, Housel Ave., Lyndonville, NY, with the Rev. Lyle Drake officiating. Memorials may be made in Mary's name to Hospice of Orleans Co., 14080 State Highway Rt. 31, Albion, NY 14411; or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements were made through the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina.
