Richard O. Dickinson

ALBION —  

Richard O. Dickinson, age 81, died on December 17, 2012 at Medina Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 8, 1931 in Albion, a son of the late John Edward and Helen (Smith) Dickinson.
Richard was a First Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War and was past Commander of the Sheret Post #35 American Legion where he also played Taps at many funeral services. He was a graduate of Cornell University and was a former employee of T.J. Lipton, Green Haven Correctional Facility and had also owned and operated Dickinson Roofing for many years. In the 1950's, Richard played semi-pro football for the Medina Macs.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy; children, Robert (Sue) Dickinson of Albion, Debra (James) Beach of Albion, Randall (Judy) Dawson of Medina; grandchildren, Natalie, Angela Dickinson, Brandi, Jamie Beach, Ashlee, Richard Dawson; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald Feeney of Tennessee; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 W. Avenue, Albion, Thursday, from 12:00-1:00 PM, where his Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM, with full Military Honors. Interment will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sheret Post #35 American Legion or The Villages of Orleans, Donations Dementia Unit.
