Anthony Massop is bringing big numbers onto the Niagara County Community College campus this fall, leading the men’s and women’s bowling team along with women’s soccer. On Tuesday, the third-year coach introduced 26 student-athletes, who signed National Letters of Intent to attend the two-year junior college.
“I’m very happy as a coach to bring in such a great combination of kids for our men’s and women’s bowling and women’s soccer programs,” he said. “I’m always looking for kids who are team players, have technical skills, are leaders for their team and are quality kids with good academics. I think we did fantastic this year.”
The women’s bowling class includes Audrelle Gospodarski (Maryvale), Amber Passero (Niagara-Wheatfield), Brooke Seiwell (Niagara Falls), Megan Maurer (Niagara Falls), Hannah Mosher (North Tonawanda), Jen Hojnowski (North Tonawanda), Jill Phillips (North Tonawanda) and Allison Marchese (Kenmore East).
Men’s bowling signees included Tyler Laubacker (Lockport), Eric Michalski (Amherst), Tom Iacono (North Tonawanda), Shane Ryan (Silver Creek), David Poole (Lockport), Brad Bender (Tonawanda), Jacob Swartz (Lockport) and Alexander Wolf (Lockport).
“Western New York is a hotbed for bowling and I’m very pleased I was able to bring in (two) girls that were state champions (Niagara Falls) and three boys who were state champions (Section VI team),” Massop said. “All of the recruits are exceptional bowlers. I think it’s going to be a huge upgrade. This group is going to give us an opportunity to be much more competitive. This could be a breakout year for our program.”
Those joining the women’s soccer program include Erin Kraus (JFK), Victoria Zambuto (V-Greece Athena), Anissa Williams (Riverside), Jennifer Schintzus (Iroquois), Marissa Peltier (Clarence), Alana Humphrey (McKinley), Faye-Lynne Noel (Christian Central), Jessica Zinsmeister (V-Kendall), Samantha Costanzo (North Tonawanda) and Haylee Stopa (Niagara Falls).
“This is the best crop of soccer players that I have brought in,” Massop said. “They are all quality young ladies that will definitely upgrade our technical skill level. A lot of them come from winning programs, too, which should help bring a winning mentality into the season. I’m looking forward to a much better season.”
