HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Elba sweeps Lyndonville

Elba swept to a home-and-home doubleheader victory over Lyndonville on Tuesday to close out the Genesee Region League season.

The Elba boys scored a 61-56 victory at Lyndonville and the Lady Lancers posted a 59-46 home court win.

Trailing 31-27 at the half, the Elba boys used a 15-8 third period surge to key the win. Ian Woodworth netted eight of his game high 20 points during that stretch.

Casey Hoover then scored 10 of his 16 points to spark a 19-16 fourth period surge which locked up the win for the Lancers.

Michael Hollingshead scored nine of his 19 points in the first period to spark Lyndonville out to a 19-12 lead. The Tigers maintained a 31-27 advantage at the break.

Elba finishes the regular season at 10-10 while Lyndonville, which hosts Barker in a non-league game at 7 p.m. Thursday, slips to 6-13.

ELBA — Trailing 33-19 at the half, Elba exploded for 30 points in the decisive third quarter to key the victory.

Cassy Engle scored 14 of her game high 16 points to spearhead Elba’s hug third period.

“They just went crazy. We just couldn’t stop them,” Lyndonville coach Mark Hughes said.

Molly Burgess scored 11, Kelsey Traxler 10 and Angela Watson nine for Lyndonville.

Elba finishes the regular season at 14-6 and Lyndonville at 6-13.

Kendall 42, Wheatland-Chili 32

KENDALL— Jen Cole had 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals to spark Kendall to the 42-32 G-R win over Wheatland-Chili.

Meaghan Fahy added nine points for Kendall which finishes the regular season at 7-13.

Wrestling

Lyndonville 41, Bishop Kearney 21

LYNDONVILLE — Forfeits dominated the match, as Lyndonville posted a 41-21 non-league victory over Bishop Kearney.
