Albion Middle School performs "Seussical the Musical'

ALBION —

Come visit a world, a world full of fun.

Albion Middle School welcomes all, you don’t have to run.

Performing “Seussical the Musical” that young and old will enjoy.

There will be characters such as the Cat in the Hat, Horton and Jojo the boy.

A musical based on 13 books from Dr. Seuss will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and noon and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Albion Middle School auditorium.

“They’re doing a fabulous job,” said director Carrie Kozody. “Seussical is not an easy show to do.”

Kozody said she had heard the music to the show and the various styles of songs it offered, and just knew.

“The audience will definitely enjoy the blast of colors.” she said. “The set crew did a fabulous job of creating Seussville. It definitely will bring the child out in everyone.”

With 57 kids in the cast and 115 students total, working on the show, seventh-grader Madaline Fournier, who will play Mayzie La Bird, said that the show is a lot of fun.

“I was really surprised they could fit 13 stories into one,” she said. “There is lots of colors and lots of excitement.”

Performing the lead role in his first school musical is sixth-grader Joshua Metzler, who will be playing Horton the Elephant.

“I had no clue what to expect,” he said. “But it’s been really fun.”

Playing the crazy, mischief-making Cat in the Hat is eighth-grader Lydia Erakare.

“It’s a pretty crazy character,” she said. “Out of my comfort zone the whole show, which is challenging. But I got the hang of it.”

The catalyst of the show, Erakare said that the Cat in the Hat pushes the show forward and meddles into the other characters stories.

“It’s not too serious of a show,” she said. “It was exciting and fun to learn all of the dances and songs.”

The character of Jojo follows the Cat in the Hat until he is pushed into the story and becomes a Who. Eighth-grader Martha Smith will play the role. She said she has enjoyed the experience this year, bringing different children’s books to life.

Crushing on Horton is the character of Gertrude McFuzz, played by eighth-grader Samantha Gramlich.

“The show is mostly songs so the audience will enjoy that,” she said.

The song “Notice Me Horton” is her favorite of the show, as her character works to try and get the elephant’s attention.

Calling her character the “Aretha Franklin of the Jungle of Nool,” eighth-grader Samantha Dumont plays the Sour Kangaroo.

“This is a really big show,” she said. “I can’t wait for everyone to come and see how good we are.”

Tickets for the show are $2 for students and seniors and $3 for adults.
