Annual Super Cruise event brings a crowd to downtown

MEDINA — Crowds gathered Wednesday in downtown Medina for the annual Super Cruise. Benefiting the Western New York Tri-County American Red Cross, the yearly event acted as the closure for the summer-long weekly car cruises in the canal basin.

“It was a good turnout,” said event co-chair Donna Bushover. With approximately 200 classic and souped-up vehicles attending, crowds walked Main Street looking at cars, visiting several booth and listening to music.

Bringing in more of a crowd, Elvis tribute artist Terry Buchwald of Buffalo took the stage for another year, performing the King of Rock ’n’ Roll’s greatest hits and moves.

“I enjoy the cars and the people I meet,” said Albion resident Charlie Daniels.

Daniels and his friend Floyd Newlends like to attend the weekly events and each bring one of their many classic cars, especially their 1954 Hudson’s. Daniels said that only 30,000 were made between 1953 and 54 and they are really rare.

Also attending for the cars is Clarendon resident Jim Vink. Vink said that he likes to attend a lot of the Medina cruises to display his vehicle and interact with those around.

Mike and Heather Gillette of Albion decided to attended the event for the cars, food and Elvis.

“I came to see the old cars,” said Mike

The evening also included a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.
