New Year’s day brings a fresh start to everyone’s plate — a chance for new beginnings and positive changes.
For Gina Hagerty and Aric Fox, these new beginnings came in the form of their first daughter — Hannah May Fox.
Hannah was born at 8:47 a.m. Jan. 2 at Medina Memorial Hospital, the first baby born in the new year in Medina.
Weighing 6 pounds and 12 ounces, the baby was delivered by Dr. Michele Odrobina of the Women’s Health Center. She joins older brother Noah, 1, who, like his parents, welcomed the baby with open arms.
“It’s very exciting for us,” Hagerty said. “When we arrived at the hospital we didn’t know if anyone else had delivered yet in 2009.”
Fox is a long-time resident of Medina, having grown up in the area. His own family still lives around the corner from the couple, who recently moved into their new home in South Academy Street. Hagerty, meanwhile, is originally from Buffalo but has lived locally for the past few years.
Fox said both families were extremely excited to see the newest addition to the clan.
Hagerty works as a manager for a group home for the Arc of Orleans, while Fox works as an electrical technician at Progressive Machine & Design LLC in Victor.
As a gift to the new family, the hospital presented them with a gift basket full of newborn essentials. Included in the basket were gifts from The Book Shoppe, a gift certificate from Celebrity Day Spa, night gowns from Blissetts, a knitted sweater from the TWIG Gift Shop and other essentials from the Medina Memorial Health Care System.
The couple were very happy to welcome their newest family member. As for big brother Noah, Hagerty said he is adjusting better than she expected. Noah will be celebrating his own birthday at the end of the month.
“When he came to the hospital, he kept saying ‘baby, baby’ and tried to take her out of my mom’s arms,” she said with a laugh. “He keeps trying to give her the pacifier ... but he’s doing better than I thought he would.”
